Outlier gives talk at Taiwanese type foundry

Outlier gave a talk at one of the last existing traditional printing and letter factories in Taiwan, called 日星鑄字行 (more info and pictures here). The talk was organized by our friends at justfont.

Chris talked about Outlier’s database—the core of our technology—as well as our upcoming dictionary. Ash explained the difference between surface-structure and deep-structure when doing research on Chinese characters and how font designers can use paleography to inform their design decisions. For instance: in 寬 is the component under 宀 a 草字頭 (艹) or not? Should the top of 寺 be written as 土 or 士?
